EDUCATION
At the Maru we believe that education is at the heart of both our scientific and conservation goals.  Our education programs teach both technical field research skills and methodologies.  Through these activities our students develop a respect for our amazing natural world and a desire to be good stewards of it.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Our environmental education program teaches young Malawians about the Lakes amazing biodiversity and how to enjoy it safely through swim training.  Teaching students that the Lake is not only full of resources, but also beauty, is vital to its long-term conservation.  Our programs provide and opportunity for internationals and Malawians to exchange ideas about what Lake Malawi means to them and how best to take care of it.
The Marus volunteer and Internship programs are central to our goal of being a place where international and Malawian students come together to learn about the Lake and each other.  Volunteers and interns are valuable members of our research team.  Their enthusiasm and hard work make it all possible.  Click here to learn more.
The Marus partner, Aquanuts Divers is a fully certified PADI dive center.  With Aquanuts the Maru trains underwater researchers to better understand the Lakes depths.  Diving provides us with unique access to the flora and fauna of the lake, allowing us to monitor its health and diversity at an unprecedented scale.
